Why won't you install in late December or January?

Because Minnesota. Subzero stretches are routine here in January and February, -20°F mornings happen, and by then rooflines are carrying snow and the eaves have ice. Installing in those conditions is dangerous for our crew and produces a worse install - clips seat poorly on iced surfaces and connections are harder to seal properly.
